Cooking

A pinch here
A stir there
Learning to read
Everywhere!

You want to teach words have meaning?  Open a cookbook.  I experienced referring to a recipe over and over again while making chocolate chip cookies with my granddaughter made a lasting impression with her.  I pointed to the words one cup, then we  would look for the one cup measuring cup.  For each ingredient, we would do this.  In addition, I made a big deal of pointing and reading the steps while making the dough.   The whole time while making the cookies, I reiterated how important it was to read the words.  We all love to cook with our grandkids.  Next time turn it into a fun reading lesson; teaching words have meaning.
